Illustration (BFA)

I think I look at things in a pretty relaxed and optimistic way, which tends to come through in my work...profound moments are so much more powerful to me when contrasted with a lighthearted tone.

In his junior year, James Firnhaber BFA '16 was picked as a finalist in the Society of Illustrators' annual national competition for top college junior. He is now a freelance illustrator whose clients include Disney-Hyperion Publishing and The New York Times.

A storyteller at heart, his illustrations capture the moments that define, inspire, and change individuals and places. In his work, he uses watercolor washes and detailed line work to tell those stories.

Apart from illustration, James' passions also include playing and designing board games.
