Review this helpful list of items you do and do not need to bring with you when you move to your residence hall.

What's Included in Your Room

You don't have to worry about the the following items—they will be included in your room or apartment.

  • 3 drawer dresser
  • Air conditioner (window units in Furness, Spruce, Pine. There is central air in Juniper.)
  • Extra-long twin size bed
  • Closet storage
  • Drafting desk
  • Desk chair
  • Microwave‐fridge unit
  • Kitchen storage

What You Do Want to Bring

The following items are not included. Don’t panic if you forget something, there are many stores in Philadelphia and it is easy to get whatever basics you might need.

You and your roommates may want to plan who is bringing what and for additional items once you have moved in.

Bedroom

  • Alarm clock
  • Bed linens for extra long twin bed (available from our partner at Linens Program)
  • Blanket/bed spread
  • Mattress pad or foam pad
  • Pillows

Bathroom

  • Bath mat
  • Personal toiletries
  • Shower caddy
  • Shower curtain and rings
  • Towels/washcloths
  • Toilet paper (single-ply only please)

Cleaning

  • Broom/vacuum/mop
  • Cleaning products
  • Dish soap/dish rack/sponges
  • Laundry basket/bag
  • Laundry detergent
  • Trash can/trash bags

Kitchen

  • Coffee/tea pot
  • Cooking utensils
  • Flatware/silverware
  • Food storage items
  • Glasses/cups/mugs
  • Toaster/toaster oven

Miscellaneous

  • Area rugs

  • Lamps (although there is limited overhead lighting in each apartment, additional lighting may be preferred)

  • Toolkit (hammer, screwdriver, etc.)

What Not to Bring

Certain items are prohibited in the residence halls because they violate university policy or fire codes.

  • Air conditioners (bringing your own is prohibited, but one is provided for each room)
  • Alcohol containers (whether they contain alcohol or not)
  • Alcohol paraphernalia
  • Candles/incense/wax burners (open flame or lit ember prohibited)
  • Drugs
  • Drug paraphernalia
  • Electric blankets
  • Extension cords
  • Firearms
  • Fireworks
  • Halogen lamps
  • Hookahs
  • Microwave ovens (bringing your own is prohibited, but one is provided for each kitchen area)
  • Pets or animals (fish are allowed, maximum size aquarium is 15 gallons)
  • Refrigerators and freezers of any size (bringing your own is prohibited, but one is provided for each apartment)
  • Space heaters
  • Plug-in string lights, rope lights, holiday lights (batter or solar-powered lights are allowed limited to 3 strands per apartment)
  • Tattoo equipment
  • Weapons
