JOB TITLE: Director for Alumni, Parent and Family Relations

DEPARTMENT:  Advancement

REPORTS TO:  Vice President for Advancement

Summary:

The role is responsible for providing vital leadership for all aspects of University of the Arts' alumni, and parent and family engagement program. The Director will develop and executive a comprehensive strategy to foster increased participation from alumni and parents/guardians for current and former students, resulting in life-long engagement and support of the institution.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Plans, directs, and manages all functions of alumni, parent and family engagement including the development of special programming, events, and communications to improve and increase meaningful engagement.
  • Plans, implements and executes events and engages in steward and solicit a variety of key University stakeholders.
  • Develops annual plans, goals for growth, and key reports to measure performance and return on investment of resources and time.
  • Serves as the primary architect and contact for the Alumni Council leadership group structure and alumni volunteer opportunities; understanding that of a vibrant, engaged, and robust team of volunteers is an important part of a strong alumni community and a critical alignment for achievement of alumni engagement goals.
  • In conjunction with Advancement and campus partners, manage and oversee volunteer leaders of the Parent and Family Council, and identified key initiatives and priorities to support current families.
  • Creates, develops and supports additional volunteer groups and initiatives to support Advancement and University priorities.
  • Works closely and collaboratively with colleagues and campus partners across the university to support shared goals and ensure the integration of alumni and families into University programs and communications.
  • Bolster the strategic direction of the University's annual giving programs to alumni financial support to the University and educates-the community-importance of annual support.
  • Identify alumni and parent and family prospects and streamline them into the annual fund and major gift pipeline when possible.

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree preferred.

Experience:

  • Minimum 5-7 years’ experience with increasing responsibility in non-profit fundraising roles, preferably in higher education, with particular focus on the volunteer management and special events.
  • Experience in engaging constituencies, and working with volunteers.
  • Record of developing and implementing effective engagement plans, and achieving metric-driven goals.
  • Demonstrated ability to take primary responsibility for a diverse number of projects and to complete them in a timely manner with limited supervision.
  • Demonstrated ability to assess challenging circumstances and develop feasible solutions which work in collaboration with leadership to implement solutions.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities, concurrent assignments, multiple alumni engagement and fundraising initiatives, and volunteer leaders.

Competencies, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and networking skills are essential.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of poise and professionalism in all circumstances.
  • Ability to initiate and build relationships with prospective donors and campus partners, interacting in person as well as by telephone and other electronic means.
  • Arts literacy, and some familiarity with the Philadelphia arts/university funding community, is preferred.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple unique projects at once.
  • May be trained to use data management tools.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office suite, Google applications, Zoom.
  • Ability to budget and manage university purchasing card.
  • Must be able to work evenings and weekends as warranted.
