Mackenzie Newbury is an adjunct professor of tap at UArts who also enjoys teaching Musical Theater repertoire and jazz classes. She was inspired to begin tapping by watching Savion Glover “tap, snap, and clap” on Sesame Street and Vera Ellen in White Christmas. Her style can be described as classic Broadway and old holiday. She is also a self-proclaimed member of “The Fosse Posse.”

Biography

Mackenzie Newbury holds a Bachelor of Music in Musical Theatre from the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. She has lived and worked extensively in the Washington, D.C., area; the New York City area; and throughout Pennsylvania, Delaware, and New Jersey.

When Newbury is not teaching, choreographing, or performing, she works as a voice teacher and an audition coach. Her favorite part of teaching is connecting with students and watching them grow. Newbury enjoys finding many different ways to explain a step or a concept so that it may “click” for a larger number of students. She is also passionate about curriculum development and lesson planning, so students are prepared as they enter the professional world. Newbury currently resides in New Jersey, having lived in the Philadelphia area since 2017.
