Visiting Artist

Josep Rafanell i Orra is a psychologist and psychotherapist and works as an essayist. Collaborating for nearly 20 years with institutes of care and social work, he develops reflections and interventions at the crossroads of the pragmatic redefinition of a situated policy, and the taking of sides against the machines of state management and integration into the economy. Author of the books Ending Therapeutic Capitalism. Care, politics and community (The Discovery, 2011) and Fragmenting the World (Divergences, 2018), he also publishes in the following journals: Futur Antérieur, Alice, Chimères, Ecorev, Illusio... Josep Rafanell i Orra was also co-host of a political investigation collective, which led to the publication of Notebooks of Political Investigations, Living, Experimenting, Telling (Éditions des mondes à faire, 2016). For three years, he hosted the seminar at the Laboratoire d’Aubervilliers, Practices of care and collectives. Which autonomies? A collective book he coordinated, Itinérances, published by Divergences in 2018, retraces the experience. Then, for four years, he created and led Les Communaux, a constellation of interventions around forms of reappropriation of relationships with urban land, subsistence, care practices and hospitality toward migrants. The Communals also made it possible to share the research work of anthropologists, historians, sociologists and philosophers during those years.
