Dance (MFA)

Jeff Jean-Philippe, a versatile artist, is quickly becoming one of New England’s premier hip-hop educators and choreographers. Originally from Montreal, Quebec, and living in northern Massachusetts, Jean-Philippe’s passion for the art of dance grew quickly when he was studying under some of North America’s top and original hip-hop and dance teachers, including Super Dave, Jamar Hopkins, and Brian “Footwork” Green, to name just a few. His training in hip-hop and street dance culture is extensive and includes dancehall, break dancing, Chicago footwork, house, popping, locking, animation, whacking, Afro-house, Krump and more.

Jean-Philippe has taught at a series of masterclasses, workshops, conventions and colleges throughout the East Coast and Canada; he also judges at various dance competitions and battle events. His high-energy classes strongly focus on hip-hop foundation, technique and fundamentals keeping the essence of the culture and contemporary and modern elements, thus explaining a term he co-coined, “Temphopical” (the fusion of contemporary hip-hop and lyrical). Jean-Philippe has performed with numerous local dance companies from Boston, in ballets, in commercials, on TV shows (So You Think You Can Dance season 12, top 30), as a backup dancer and in musicals. He has recently been featured in music videos of big names, such as the hip-hop artist Joyner Lucas and the legendary dancehall artist Mr.Vegas. Jean-Philippe is the founder and director of his own hip-hop, contemporary/modern-focused company, The Expressive Movement, which recently toured the East Coast, Canada and went international! He has performed professionally on multiple occasions in The Nutcracker and Hairspray and in commercials such as Twix, Skippy Peanut Butter, Nestle Inc., Nerf and iTunes. He has done video work for Joyner Lucas, Mr.Vegas, Ryan Lewis, Macklemore, Jillian Jensen and other artists.

Jean-Philippe enjoys sharing his knowledge and passion for art, holistic wellness and Afro-diasporic lineage, and most importantly, guiding, coaching and mentoring the health and wellness of all humans. He continues to share by speaking in numerous racial equity seminars and holding lectures in many communities titled “Bridge The Racial Gap” and “The Divine Masculine and Feminine,” as well as creating youth programs and coaching kids to build upon their talents and gifts.
