Ashley Smith is a Philadelphia-based photographer and the owner of Wide Eyed Studios. She covers a diverse subject base, including theater, music, dance, engagements and weddings, births and families, nonprofits, and schools.

Biography

Ashley Smith has a degree in Visual Anthropology and Gender Studies from Franklin and Marshall College and a master’s in Photojournalism from Boston University. After living and studying in a wide variety of locations, including Connecticut, Salem and Boston, New Zealand, and the Hopi reservation in Arizona, she settled in the Philly area, where she started Wide Eyed Studios 12 years ago. Smith works both locally and abroad and is a skilled visual storyteller, using dynamic, colorful, honest imagery to document her subjects. She lives just outside the city with her husband, three kids, and three cats.

Experience

Smith has been working in the photo industry for over 15 years. She has covered a wide swath of the talent in the Philadelphia area, including work for the Arden Theatre Company, The Wilma Theater, Walnut Street Theatre, Philadelphia Artists’ Collective, Inis Nua Theatre Company, Pig Iron Theatre Company, Fringe Arts, Curtis Opera Theatre, Hedgerow Theatre Company, Footlighters Theater, inFLUX Theatre Collective, Applied Mechanics, Roll Play, Philadelphia Young Playwrights, 1812 Productions, Salt, People’s Light, PEW Center, Barrymore Awards, Philadelphia Theatre Company, Women’s Film Festival, IPAY (International Performing Arts for Youth), the Lady Hoofers, the Bearded Ladies, Cirque du Soleil, Circadium, Philly Opera, Secret Circus, and other organizations. She specializes in live-run / production coverage, promo shoots, head shots, event coverage, and interactive theater.
