Theater Design & Technology (BFA)

Anna Sorrentino is costume shop manager at UArts, where she mentors, guides, and trains students in costume construction. She oversees the production, fitting, and altering of all costumes for the Brind School’s theatrical productions and occasionally designs. She is also an adjunct assistant professor of costume construction, teaching students the fundamentals of sewing and garment construction.

Biography

Anna Sorrentino is a South Jersey native and a Philadelphia resident with a decade of experience in the Philadelphia theater scene. Her costume designs have been seen at theaters across the Philadelphia region and beyond, including Azuka Theatre, Quintessence Theatre Group, Walnut Street Theatre, and Shakespeare in Clark Park, all in Philadelphia;  Delaware Shakespeare, Wilmington; and Chester Theatre Company, Massachusetts, among others.

Sorrentino has also worked as a dramaturg, a stage manager, and a wardrobe supervisor across the city. She is a new play specialist, with recent development collaborations at Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh, and Villanova University. She holds a master’s degree in theater from Villanova University, where her primary areas of study were costume design and dramaturgy. Additional training includes the Wingspace Theatrical Design mentorship and the Hangar Theatre (Ithaca, New York) Costume Design Fellowship.

Sorrentino’s recent costume designs include 

  • Macbeth and Twelfth Night, O Lo Que Quieras, Delaware Shakespeare, Wilmington;

  • The Wild Party and Water by the Spoonful, Eagle Theatre, Hammonton, New Jersey;

  • Two Gentleman of Verona, Shakespeare in Clark Park, Philadelphia;

  • The Little Prince, Quintessence Theatre Group, Philadelphia; and 

  • Birds of North America, Chester Theatre Company, Massachusetts.
