Types of Financial Aid

All students are considered for financial aid based on eligibility. There are several types of financial aid for which a student can be qualified.

  • Grants are considered gift aid and need not be repaid. Eligibility is determined by need, based on the FAFSA.

  • Educational loans must be repaid and are usually offered at low interest rates with extended repayment periods. There are different types of educational loans awarded, based on need determined by the FAFSA, or based on credit. Students eligible to complete the FAFSA must be U.S. citizens or eligible non-citizens.

  • Student employment, or work-study, is a work-to-earn program that is paid biweekly at an hourly rate. There are different programs based on eligibility for students who are U.S. citizens or eligible non-citizens and international students.

  • Scholarships are merit-based awards that are granted as part of the admission review process. All students are automatically considered for scholarships during the application process. No special application is required. Students are also encouraged to apply for outside scholarships opportunities.

Federal aid consists of grants, educational loans and the federal work-study program. Eligibility is determined by need, based on the FAFSA.

Scholarships

UArts recognizes the talents of our students through a range of merit-based scholarships. All applicants are automatically considered for merit-based scholarships. No special application is necessary.

Scholarship recipients are evaluated based on the review of their creative portfolios or auditions, prior academic success, related experience, and general suitability of one’s interests and goals to our programs. International students are eligible for merit-based scholarships under the same criteria as domestic applicants.

For graduate students, some scholarships may require an additional application.
