Design BFA - General, Undeclared

Are you a designer, but unsure of which major to pick? The School of Design’s General, Undeclared program is a first-year option for new Design students.

Learning with other first-year Design students who have declared their majors, you’ll explore and experience the common elements of all four programs in the School of Design before choosing yours.

The General, Undeclared First Year program introduces students to, and allows them to explore, emerging design issues and coursework from Graphic Design, Illustration, Interaction Design, and Product Design.

Design is about solving problems and creating new processes, products, and services for people. Undecided students are immersed in various aspects of design and create graphics, objects, interactions, systems, and services. They gain both technical and conceptual skills to push past obvious solutions and work in diverse teams.

Formal design principles, methods, theories, and techniques provide a solid foundation, no matter the program they select. Students experiment over a wide range of applications and platforms, while also considering audience, collaboration, and meaning in pursuit of innovative and exciting design.

UArts’ Design BFA - General, Undeclared First Year program ensures that all courses taken by undecided students are applicable to their eventual design major and contribute toward degree requirements. They can make a smooth transition into their chosen major after declaring their specific design program after their first year.
