Matthew Manhire is a musician and a maker with a passion for analog technologies. Shortly after learning to solder, he started etching circuit boards and restoring tube amps in his dorm room.

After working for Jess Oliver (Ampeg B15 Inventor), Andy Fuchs (Fuchs Audio/Plush Pedals) and a handful of recording studios, Matt moved to Philadelphia and started Rootbeer Audio, which handles tube amplifier repair and restoration work for many of Philadelphia’s well-known artists, bands, venues and studios.

When he’s not restoring vintage gear, Matt can be found designing unique, bespoke tube amplifiers and pedals in his Philadelphia workshop. His work has been featured in the Philadelphia Inquirer and on WHYY, and in 2016 he was awarded a Corzo Incubator Grant for his “Philly 20 watt” amplifier.
