What makes the UArts Master of Industrial Design program distinctive?
The MID program at UArts promotes design thinking and practice as the new management tool, instrumental in fostering strategic creativity and organizational learning. We offer design input at the earliest stages of the development cycle and assist with initial project definition.

MID students learn through strategic and long-term partnerships with industry and organizations that are looking for ways to develop and grow more sustainable and that are interested to engage such change through design.

MID at UArts promotes a design process that facilitates collaborative projects across disciplines, that organizes and maps research and expert input, and that produces actionable models and scenarios to communicate and manifest change.

What is the curriculum like?
The two-year, 60-credit curriculum (for students holding a bachelor’s degree in an art or design field or equivalent) consists of studio, methods, and seminar courses. The curriculum is project-based, so course content is integrated around studio-based projects each semester.

The three-year, 78-credit curriculum (for students from disciplines other than art and design) provides a prerequisite year of basic design skills, concepts, and competencies with six credits of graduate coursework that will prepare students to enter the two-year MID program.
