I’m endlessly pulled towards the subtleties and mundane aspects of our daily lives, the activities that fill the bulk of our time but are usually looked over. I’m interested in making these things visually beautiful, and hopefully making others see the charm in seemingly monotonous moments.

Julia Barnes was named a finalist for the Society of Illustrators Zankel Scholarship in 2018. She embraces mixed media in her abstracted, figurative work with a blend of gouache, colored pencils, and oil pastels. Some things that inspire her are dancing, reading, cooking and traveling.
