Music - Composition (BM)

My time at UArts gave me a ton of knowledge in a lot of different areas, but the biggest thing it did for me was help me to find my niche. Because of that, I have the privilege to make a living in music

Reed Bodenstein is a pianist, composer, and educator based in South Jersey. He attended UArts as a Composition major, with minors in Music Education and MBET. His primary focus in school was large ensemble jazz writing, having two excellent vehicles available: the UArts Z Big Band, in which he also played piano, and Yellow 11, a student-led eleven-piece group.

During his undergraduate studies he discovered a love for teaching, which he pursued after graduation, earning his MAT in Music Education in 2017. The following year, he opened the Pinelands Music Academy in Medford Lakes, NJ, where he serves as co-director and teaches piano. Reed joined the faculty at Rowan University in 2019, teaching Music Theory and Ear Training.

Reed continues to perform and write jazz, primarily for small groups like Osmos and Nine Arms, comprising fellow Arts alumni as well as other Philly musicians. Other projects include indie rock outfit Tinley Park Lights and a sci-fi comedy musical.
