Matteo Scammell is a Barrymore Award-winning theatre-artist and musician. He is a company member of OBIE Award-Winning theatre company New Paradise Laboratories, as well as a multi-instrumentalist with the funk/R&B group Red 40 & The Last Groovement. His work has premiered at Ice Factory (NYC), The New Ohio Theater (NYC), Ant Fest (Ars Nova, NYC), Philadelphia's Live Arts Festival/FringeArts. Regional Credits: Wilma, Arden, Exile, Pig Iron, 11th Hour, Walnut, PTC, Theatre Horizon, EgoPo, among others.

"I chose UArts because I wanted to be in a city," he says. "Having gone to high school in the middle of nowhere (South Central PA), I was ready for the energy of a culturally diverse place. It was more welcoming than New Brunswick, less hectic than NYC, way more interesting than New Haven! "

Matteo says he's had the opportunity to work on a lot of challenging and interesting material since graduating. "I make a point to do things that scare me a little bit," he says. "UArts taught me the importance of the actor and made me believe in theater as an art form."
