Music Education (MAT)

UArts is an incredibly innovative campus. My prior knowledge of music and teaching was elevated to a new standard because of the rigorous curriculum and high expectations for student achievement. The Vocal and Music Education departments are prestigious with professors that are also working musicians. My greatest influences while attending UArts were Paul Spencer Adkins and Jeffrey Kern.

Alum Bridget Warren (MAT '13) conducts her choir.

Bridget Warren began piano lessons at seven years old. At age 16, she taught voice and piano at a local music store and was later accepted at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia. She received a Bachelor's degree in Vocal Performance and a MAT in Music Education in 2013. Upon graduation, Bridget was accepted as a student performer of the Bel Canto Institute program in Florence, Italy.  Her vocal awards and honors received include the UArts Vocal Faculty Award, Adolf and Geraldine Paier Scholarship, and Bel Canto Institute Scholarship. Bridget currently owns the Pasadena Performance Center in Pasadena, TX; is the head choir director at Melillo Middle School in Houston, TX; and is president of the Warren Youth Singers Community Choir. The WYS have performed with the Distinguished Concerts International New York (DCINY) Choir in Carnegie Hall for presentations of I Hear America Singing: The Music of André Thomas and Greg Gilpin and the world premiere of La Cigarra y La Hormiga by Cristian Grases. They recently, participated in the performance of The Music of Alberto Grau on the DCINY Concert Series in New York City in June 2019. Warren’s mission is to encourage collaboration, inspire achievement and support young aspiring musicians of all backgrounds through quality music education and ample performance opportunities.
