Summary:

The School of Film enrolls over 260 full time students and currently comprises undergraduate BFA programs in Animation, Game Art, Film, Film and Animation, Film Design, and Screenwriting. We are a thriving and proudly independent arts community of working artists and professionals from Philadelphia and the region, committed to preparing tomorrow’s moving picture artists to lead creative lives, build successful professional careers and produce relevant, impactful work.

The School of Film at University of the Arts invites applications for a full time, two year, renewable appointment of Visiting Assistant Professor of Film and Media Studies to begin in August 2022. The teaching load will be 3/3 or 18 credits per year. Course assignments will include History of Narrative Cinema and World Cinema for Fall 2022.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • The successful candidate is expected to be able to teach a variety of film and media studies and history courses such as Feminism in Media, French Film History, Black Independent Cinema, Queer Cinema, Avant Garde Cinema, or others based on the faculty member’s area of interest and expertise. There are significant opportunities to develop additional, specialized course offerings designed to expand the School of Film’s students’ understanding of the salient theories and methodologies in film and media studies as well as explore global, cultural, societal, and technological complexities. 
  • Coordinate course offerings with the curriculum in the School of Film, advise and mentor Film and Media Studies minors, and provide committee service and other duties as required.

Education:

  • Ph.D. or terminal degree in Film, Communication, Media Studies or related field is preferred, however candidates who are ABD will also be considered.

Experience:

  • College teaching experience is required, along with a record or promise of scholarly publication.

Rank, Load, And Contract Start Date:  

  • Visiting Assistant Professor (two-year initial appointment), teaching 6 courses annually. Appointment commences at the end of August 2022.
