As we welcome graduate students to the University of the Arts for study this fall, we have structured the programming as both an orientation for new graduate students and a reorientation for returning students. By convening all graduate students and faculty, we hope to showcase the vitality of the graduate education at UArts while inspiring you to strengthen existing connections and make new ones with your peers.

Programming will be entirely virtual and consists of synchronous and asynchronous sessions.

Graduate students will be emailed a link to a Canvas classroom that contains all pertinent information and links to meeting rooms on the first day of Orientation, Monday, Aug. 24. Additionally, each graduate department will be conducting their own program-specific orientation. Details will be emailed to the incoming class by the graduate program directors.

Graduate and Professional Studies Welcome Meeting, 11:30 a.m.–1p.m. EST
During this session, all incoming and returning graduate students, will be welcomed to UArts and will:

  • Learn about how the newly formed Graduate and Professional Studies unit will support their education at UArts
  • Meet faculty from all graduate programs at UArts
  • Meet students across graduate programs in a break-out session


The following live sessions are optional and open to all students:

Opening Act, 7–8 p.m. EST
Opening Act is a unique welcome convocation for all new and incoming students in celebration of joining our UArts community of artists, faculty and staff. Featured welcomes include President David Yager and your school's Dean. Highlighted are student performances and artwork as well as faculty welcomes, all of which make your UArts Opening Act a tradition not to be missed!

International Student Meet & Greet and Q&A, 9–10 a.m. EST
During this session, international students will get to know each other and have a chance to ask any questions they have about life at UArts.

Virtual Open Mic Night hosted by Campus Life, 7–8 p.m. EST
Join us for this favorite UArts tradition, Open Mic Night. Every year, we kick off the school year with this opportunity for students to showcase themselves as artists. You are invited to sign up to perform some music, do a comedy sketch, read some poetry, perform a monologue, or share a dance.
