<< Back to Counseling Center

Dear UArts students, faculty, staff and families,

As the Director of Counseling at the University of the Arts, I am writing to say welcome!! My name is Abe “like Lincoln” and I want to know each and every one of you.

UArts is an amazing place. We are a community of artists, designers and art educators, curators, musicians, dancers, singers, actors, creative writers, and filmmakers. Everyone who comes here is here for the same reason: We are all drawn to the arts and we gravitate to be around like-minded artistic people. In this extraordinary place, please know that I am here, along with the entire Counseling department, to support you in your journey of artistic and creative discovery.

At the UArts Counseling Center we provide individual counseling, groups, outreach training and workshops to promote the psychological and emotional health and wellbeing of our amazing student body. We collaborate with most facets of our University, CAMD, CPA, and Liberal Arts faculty to Health Services and working closely with the Office of Student Life to create and promote events. We offer consultation to faculty and staff pertaining to mental health concerns, referral to community supports for longer-term treatment, and help with addressing crisis and emergency situations. The UArts Counseling Center also operates a clinical training program for graduate interns in clinical social work, counseling and creative arts therapies.

We are adamantly dedicated to assisting all of our UArts students who may experience everything from homesickness and adjustment difficulties to major distress during your college years.

Counseling seeks to increase self-awareness and problem-solving skills and the staff and trainees here are committed to nurturing the well-being of our students and the UArts community at large. Our center is located on the 3rd floor of Gershman Hall where we offer UArts students a safe and caring space. We emphasize one message: All are welcome. Counseling is for everyone. And there is no shame in seeking help.

Please feel free to explore our website and its various links to resources on and off campus. We offer our best wishes to you on an amazing college experience during your time at the University of the Arts!
