Theater - Musical Theater (BFA)

Stearns Matthews serves as coordinator of voice study for Musical Theater in the Ira Brind School of Theater Arts at University of the Arts, where he teaches private voice and musical theater performance. Matthews is also an award-winning vocalist. 

Biography

Stearns Matthews is a MAC and Bistro award-winning vocalist whose recent appearances include The Town Hall, Jazz at Lincoln Center and Feinstein’s/54 Below, all in New York City. He holds a Bachelor of Music in Music Theater from Westminster Choir College, Princeton, New Jersey. In 2017, Matthews released his critically-acclaimed recording of the song cycle December Songs, words and music by Maury Yeston, marking the first time the cycle was recorded with a male-identifying singer. 

Awards & Accolades

  • Matthews’ debut album, Spark, won the 2015 Bistro Award for Outstanding Recording and the LaMott/Friedman Manhattan Association of Cabarets and Clubs Award for Outstanding Recording.

  • He also won the 2015 MAC Award for Best Male Vocalist.
