Steven Kleinman has taught at University of the Arts for five years and been the interim director of Creative Writing since 2020. His primary field of interest is contemporary poetry, specifically form, syntax and line. 

Biography
Steven Kleinman is the author of Life Cycle of a Bear, winner of the 2019 Philip Levine Poetry Prize. His work has appeared in American Poetry Review, The Best American Poetry, The Gettysburg Review, The Iowa Review and elsewhere. 

Experience

  • Kleinman has taught previously in Philadelphia at Drexel University and the Community College of Philadelphia. 
  • He is a contributing editor at American Poetry Review, for which he co-hosts the American Poetry Review Podcast. 
  • Kleinman is also faculty coordinator for the Art Alliance Writers' Workshop at University of the Arts.
