Stuhmer is an Associate Professor of Fine Arts in Painting. His work includes paintings, drawings, photographs, videos, and immersive installations where contemporary history is referenced, mirrored, masked, and filtered through psychological representations of American cinema. Professor Stuhmer earned an MFA from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, he did residencies at the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture, Maine, and completed a 2-year fellowship at the Rijksakademie, Amsterdam. Stuhmer’s artwork has been exhibited nationally and internationally at Galerie Fons Welters, Amsterdam, the Essl Museum of Contemporary Art, Vienna, the Chicago Cultural Center, Art in General, New York, Vox Populi, Philadelphia, among others. Awards and recognition include: Best Sculpture at the Arte Laguna International in Venice, Italy, and the Royal Prize for Painting, The Netherlands. His work was featured in New American Painting, and reviewed by Art Forum, Chicago Tribune, Philadelphia Weekly, and others.
