Michele Kishita is assistant director of the Advising Center and has been an adjunct professor at UArts for 14 years. She teaches in First-Year Writing and Fine Arts. Kishita has an active studio practice, and her paintings are in the collections of Capital One, Kaiser Permanente and Toyota, and she has exhibited at the Sharjah Art Museum in the United Arab Emirates and the Museum of Non-Conformist Art in Russia.

Biography
Michele Kishita (she/her) is a Philadelphia-based artist who uses landscape as her primary subject. Her paintings are strongly influenced by the graphic stylizations and compressed spaces of Japanese ukiyo-e prints. Kishita’s paintings are in a number of private/corporate collections, and her work is featured in Create! Magazine, on the Poetry Foundation blog and the Studio Break and Thyme in the Studio podcasts, as well as in several literary journals. She has participated in artist residencies in New Mexico, Russia and Iceland and art fairs in Xiamen and Shanghai, both in China. Kishita earned both her BFA and MFA in painting from University of the Arts; is represented by James Oliver Gallery, Susanna Gold and Carrie Coleman Fine Art; and is affiliated with Crossing Art and Cufflink Art.

  • At UArts, Kishita has taught Composition Fundamentals I and II, Written Composition I and II, and Professional Practices

  • Her work is included in the corporate collections of Capital One, Cira Centre, Drexel University (The Summit), Kaiser Permanente, Park Towne Place, Temple University (Howard Gittis Student Center and Fox School of Business), Texas Tech University, Toyota, and White & Case.
