Michael has been a UArts instructor since 2014. His primary interests include jazz, music education, music production, music technology and saxophone performance.

Biography
Michael Fein earned a Bachelor of Music Education from Rutgers University and a Masters of Jazz Saxophone Performance from Rowan University, Glassboro, New Jersey. 

Fein has presented numerous sessions at music and technology conferences, including the 2005 National Education Computing Conference and the 2009 and 2010 TI:ME National Conferences. In 2010, Michael co-authored Making Music with GarageBand and Mixcraft, a music production curriculum text. In 2017, he authored Teaching Musical Improvisation with Technology.

In addition to teaching at UArts, Fein teaches music technology electives and jazz ensemble at Haverford High School in Pennsylvania and graduate music technology and jazz courses at VanderCook College of Music in Chicago.

Experience
Fein has been a clinician for Korg USA SoundTree since 2005. 

  • Fein published Teaching Music Improvisation with Technology with Oxford University Press in 2017. The book takes readers through basic and intermediate improvisation concepts, while integrating technology as a tool throughout the process. 
  • Fein co-authored Making Music with GarageBand and Mixcraft with Robin Hodson, James Frankel and Richard McCready. It was published by Cengage Learning in 2010. 
  • He mixed, mastered and designed Four Flights Up, a full-length recording of original jazz compositions and arrangements by the Michael Fein Jazz Sextet. It was published by Dreambox Media in 2005. 
  • Fein has performed with Arden Theatre Company, Ralph Bowen, Stanley Cowell, Denis DiBlasio, Ralph Peterson and Scott Whitfield, and led alto work with the great Ray Charles.
  • He has been a full-time teacher at Haverford High School in Pennsylvania since 2003. His courses include Advanced Music Theory, Basic Music Theory Digital Recording 1 & 2, Guitar Lab and Piano Lab. 
  • Fein has taught online graduate courses at VanderCook College of Music in Chicago since 2017.

  • Fein was recognized with the TI:ME (Technology in Music Education) Teacher of the Year in 2007.
  • He was also honored with the Olga Marsano Burian Award for Outstanding Achievement in Music from Rutgers University in 2002.
