Janine Diaz Whitt has been teaching at UArts since fall 2015. She aims primarily to  develop emotionally engaging and effective performers who are masters of their instrument. 

Biography
Janine Diaz Whitt is a singer, songwriter and voice teacher working in the tristate area. Whitt has always been inspired by many types of music and loves to be able to sing in not only different styles, but also in different languages. Her experiences span the spectrum from leading a cover band singing popular music to other styles, including jazz, Hispanic music like salsa and Latin jazz, classical, liturgical/church singing, musical theater and studio recordings for original artists.

Whitt is currently the bandleader of Imagine, a dance/party band with EBE Events & Entertainment. With Imagine, she has organized, emceed and performed at more than 200 weddings and private events. Whitt has also sung with other groups, such as the Latin jazz band Ellas Y Amigos, the Pops Festival Chorus with Peter Nero and the Philly Pops, and the UArts Big Band, and has sung backup for various original artists. 

Whitt has also written, recorded, produced and released a full-length album titled, Evolution (2019), featuring original songs that encompass many of the various styles that have influenced and inspired her as a performer.
 
As an educator, Whitt has been working as a private voice instructor since 2004, in addition to serving on UArts’ Vocal Performance faculty since 2015. 

Experience

  • White wrote, produced, performed and released an original full-length album called Evolution in 2019.
  • She has been bandleader and singer at EBE Events & Entertainment (Philadelphia, PA) from 2008 to the present.
  • Whitt has been an educator at UArts from 2015 to the present and the Conservatory of Musical Arts (Audubon, New Jersey) from 2005 to 2020, and choir director for Camden County College (Blackwood, New Jersey) from 2014 to 2016. 
  • She was a long-term substitute teacher at Philadelphia Performing Arts Charter School in 2011.
  • Whitt has also been a voice teacher for the Association of Latin American Musicians in Philadelphia from 2006 to 2007 and a private instructor since 2004.
