Ephraim Russell is a visual artist, curator and educator based in Philadelphia. He earned his BFA in Sculpture from Virginia Commonwealth University and his MFA in Sculpture from Tyler School of Art. His sculpture and installation is largely preoccupied with exploring our psychological and physiological connections with utilitarian objects, with a focus on manipulating the aesthetics of function and rearranging cultural assumptions that define our relationship with the objects we surround ourselves with. Russell’s sculpture and installations have been nationally and internationally exhibited including the Everson Museum of Art, Syracuse, NY; Delaware Art Museum and Delaware Center for the Contemporary Arts in Wilmington, DE; Vertex List, Brooklyn, NY; The Greestone Gallery, Lincoln University, UK; The Fleisher Art Memorial, Moore College of Art and Design, and St. Joseph’s University, University of the Arts, and the Esther Klein Gallery in Philadelphia; King County Art Gallery, Consolidated Works Contemporary Art Center, and James Harris Gallery in Seattle, WA; Tacoma Art Museum, Tacoma, WA; Pacific University, Forest Grove, OR; and The District of Columbia Arts Center and Arlington Arts Center in Washington D.C. His work has been reviewed in The Washington Post, The Philadelphia Inquirer, Philadelphia Weekly, The Seattle Times, Seattle Post Intelligencer, and Seattle Weekly, among others.
