Erin Elman is dean of Graduate and Professional Studies at University of the Arts. Previously, she served as founding dean of the School of Critical and Professional Studies from 2018 to 2020, and was founding dean of the Division of Continuing Studies at UArts from 2008 to 2018. 

Elman has taught studio art courses and seminars to various populations and is a working artist. She has artwork in numerous public and private collections, including the Tate London. Elman earned an MA in Art Education and an MFA in Book Arts/Printmaking, both from University of the Arts. She earned her BFA in Art from Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh.

Experience

  • Over the past three decades, Elman has developed innovative arts programs for learners ranging from youth to adults, including undergraduate, graduate, nonmatriculated and educator-focused students. 
  • Elman has led accreditation and strategic planning efforts, as well as serving on key leadership committees over the past decade. 
  • She also serves as an accreditation evaluator for the Middle States Commission on Higher Education. 
  • Elman has partnered with organizations as diverse as international universities and schools, school districts, and arts organizations to provide access to the arts and dynamic programming to a wide range of students.
