An excerpt from "There is a Family Now" by Sierra Lynn Guilmartin

I usually don’t like being here

The sun beats down upon me
I can’t remember if I put sunscreen on my scalp

We’re still holding hands standing in the ocean
And it’s not awkward at all

She drags me out further than I’ve ever been
It looks like she’s not stopping anytime soon

My fear of the water is washed away
