My name is Orla and I live in Philadelphia, PA. My writing mainly focuses on childhood, the questions and uncertainties of life, and the beauty in all the changes in our natural environment.

"Waning Into Another Light" by Orla Maxcy

1. As Cancer is my zodiac, I am what is referred to as
A child of the moon. The mother that watches me from
Above, and from a different perspective. She has seen
The best of me, and the worst of me. “We are all like a
Bright moon, but we still have our darker sides.” (Khalil Gibran)
She comes out when my outer shell is at
Rest, but watches over my spirit, which would always
Be awake.

2. The truth is, the moon will always be there,
Even if we don’t see her because she isn’t
Having her brightest of days. Still, the moon
has taught me that you are still whole no matter
What phase you might be in. Even when you're
slowly waning, it is only the beginning towards the
Journey to become your fullest self.

3. Sometimes, when the sun starts to set, I sit on
My roof and wait for her arrival, and when she arrives,
I tell her about the course of my day, even when
She’s not at her fullest. I tell her my secrets, knowing
They are not hers to tell, not even to the stars around her. I
Tell her because without hesitation, I know all she’ll
Do is listen, even when I have nothing to say at all. “Sometimes
Silence is the loudest kind of noise” (Bassey Ikpi)

4. They say the loneliest people only have conversations
With the moon. They also say that the loneliest people
Are highly observant with what is around them. Well, maybe
the moon is an independent part of nature, who watches and
Observes the world from above. I may not be completely alone,
But her company brings light upon the dark night—even when I
See her slowly waning away.
