PRODUCTION TEAM

Charles Inniss (Book, Music and Lyrics)(he/him) Charles is a writer and composer, dedicated to crafting narratives on the Black experience. With his writing partner and twin brother Christopher, he wrote “Written In the Stars.” The piece won the 2022 Catwalk Residency at NYU Tisch, where the piece will further be developed in June. It represents the duos’ most forceful expansion yet into the realm of science fiction, imagining Black folks breaking out of the gravity well of racial oppression in America, and exploring the vast universe.

Charles and Christopher also wrote a short musical piece adapted for film called “The Answer,” which was commissioned by Prospect Theatre Company in New York City. It has since been placed in several film festivals including the Montreal Independent Film Festival. In June of 2020 his film “Black Superman,” another short musical developed with Christopher, premiered as a part of the Astoria Performing Arts Center’s online series “The Insiders: Musicals from the Quarantine.” Charles and Christopher's 10 minute musical “The Candyman” was debuted by Prospect Theatre Company as part of a choreographed showcase presented at Ailey Citigroup Theater in February of 2020.

In 2019, their original musical “The Chest” received a professional reading at Ripley Grier studios, and featured Angela Birchett, a star of Lifetime’s “The Clark Sisters First Ladies of Gospel.” The musical featured the brother’s love of speculative fiction, purposefully playing with a concurrent past, present and future within the show.

In addition, Charles has worked on a number of other projects. In 2020 and 2021, he composed original music for an adaptation of Charles Dickens' "A Christmas Carol," written for a regional theatre in St. Louis, MO. He was a semi-finalist for the O’Neill’s National Musical Theatre Conference for this work. He also collaborated with Pinkhouse Productions in New York, penning music for two projects, "Footwork" and "Bodywork," both of which became short films that feature dance. In 2017, Charles composed original music and sound designed an off Broadway production of a new play called "The White Dress," which in 2019 enjoyed a production at the Access Theater in New York City.

Charles presently lives with his wife in Montclair, New Jersey. He dedicates his spare time to practicing classical flute literature.

Christopher Inniss (Book, Music and Lyrics)(he/him)  Christopher is a playwright, lyricist and essayist whose work centers the thriving spirit of Black folks fighting against oppression in America.

With his writing partner and twin brother Charles, he wrote “Written In the Stars,” which won the 2022 Catwalk Residency at NYU Tisch where the piece will further be developed in June. Christopher’s blog “The Dark Apologist” has garnered thousands of views online, featuring essays and short stories about the Black millennial experience. He is presently in the throes of completing his first novel, Black Tycoon, a work that developed out of his short stories. Community work that features art is extremely important for Christopher. He works with community college students in the South Bronx, teaching academic and creative writing with an eye toward helping young Black and brown people find their voice. In his spare time, he arranges and records songs for a cappella voices. and works on his jazz improvising skills on the trombone
