JOB TITLE: Part-Time Short Story

DEPARTMENT:  Creative Writing

REPORTS TO:  Program Director for Creative Writing

Summary:

The Creative Writing program at University of the Arts located in Philadelphia, PA seeks applicants for immediate placement as part-time faculty for Short Story (Multiple Levels) for the Spring 2023 semester. Classes will be taught in-person.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Part time faculty are expected to be positive thought leaders and demonstrate a desire to work collaboratively with a diverse student population. The University is particularly interested in reviewing applications from candidates with demonstrated investment in advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion, and whose identities and/or professional work intersect with or address historically marginalized communities.

The Part-Time Instructor in Short Story (multiple levels) is expected to provide special teaching expertise in the following areas;

  • Narrative Structure
  • Drafting short stories  
  • Revision of stories and novels
  • Workshop structure / procedure
  • Process of publishing short stories / novel excepts

Education:

  • MFA in Photography or relevant Advanced degree in a related field and/or significant professional experience

Experience:

  • Prior teaching experience in fiction preferred
  • History of placing stories in journals a plus but not required
  • Candidate should be active in their own creative practice as a writer 

Competencies, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Workshop management
  • Microsoft word / or other word processing platform
  • Articulation of ideas both verbal and in writing
