Spring Break Building Hours
Spring Break is March 7 – 11; classes resume on Monday, March 14. Residence halls remain open. Academic buildings will be closed on Monday, March 7 and Friday, March 11, and open during normal operating hours on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, March 8, 9 and 10. 

Summer Fellows Applications Now Available
Looking to gain professional experience in a creative field? Eager to develop skills, diversify your resume and work alongside UArts alumni? Apply to be a Summer Fellow! The Summer Fellows Program provides opportunities for high-achieving UArts students to gain meaningful experience in a creative field during summer break. Selected Fellows are matched with a UArts alumni host, who invites them into his or her workplace for one, four or eight weeks. These well-seasoned professionals provide opportunities for Fellows to observe, engage and practice their classroom skills in the working world. For program details, a list of potential placements, and the online application, please log into the UArts Portal with your UArts username and password. Once logged in, on the top main menu, go to Student Affairs > Career Services > Summer Fellows Program. All application materials are due by 5pm on Wednesday, March 16, 2016. Alumna's Designs Featured in Beyoncé Video
The work of alumna and Ivorian designer Loza Maléombho BFA '06 (Animation) is featured in ‪‎Beyoncé’s “‪‎Formation” video. The piece, worn by one of the dancers, is from the Abidjan-based label Okayafricas Spring/Summer 2016 Zaouli collection inspired by traditional masks from the northern region of Côte d’Ivoire, where Maléombho spent part of her childhood. Read more >>

ID Students' Collaboration Featured on CBSPhilly.com
Industrial Design students at UArts collaborated with Occupational Therapy students from Thomas Jefferson University to design prototype toys for children living with disabilities. After completing a three-week design intensive, the students broke out into 12 teams, each of which was given a fictional narrative about a child with a traumatic injury or disability. Read the article >>

Illustration Alum Is 'Print' Mag's 'Designer of the Week'
UArts alum Daniel Fishel BFA '09 (Illustration) was named Print magazine's "Designer of the Week" for the week of February 22. Fishel was also included on the publication’s 2015 New Visual Artists list as one of “15 brilliant creatives under 30,” as well as on Forbes magazine’s 2016 "30 Under 30: Art & Style" list.

Alum's Work Featured in Smithsonian Craft Show, Exhibit
Work by Colin Pezzano BFA ’14 (Wood) is featured in the 2016 Smithsonian Craft Show, which takes place April 21-24 at the National Building Museum in Washington, D.C. The show is widely regarded as the country’s most prestigious juried show and sale of fine American craft. Pezzano, who is a 2014 Windgate Fellowship recipient, is also featured in a group exhibit at the Hunterdon Art Museum in Clinton, N.J. “Discomfort: Experiments in Furniture, Function and Form” runs through May 8.

Alum Creates Poster for Bernie Sanders' Presidential Campaign
A poster by Craig Holden Feinberg BFA ’02 (Graphic Design), who is working closely with the Bernie Sanders campaign team and also with Lucy Flores who is running for Congress, was on display recently at Eden Gallery in Las Vegas, where Susan Sarandon was a special guest. See the poster >>

Professor's Exhibit Featured in 'Bucks County Courier Times'
“Old School, New School,” a group exhibit featuring work by Professor Rod McCormick, director of the Craft + Material Studies program, is featured in the February 23 issue of the Bucks County Courier Times. The exhibit runs through March 11 at the Hicks Art Center Gallery at the Bucks County Community College.

More Screenings for Faculty Member's Animated Feature
"The Stressful Adventures of Boxhead & Roundhead," an animated feature by Master Lecturer Elliot Cowan, continues to screen worldwide including at Animation Dingle in Ireland, March 18 and 19; Queens World Film Festival in New York on March 18; the Ozark (AR) Foothills Film Festival, April 1-9; the Trenton Film Festival on April 2; the Albuquerque Film and Music Experience on March 24; and Drawtastic in Seattle on April 30, where Cowan will also give a presentation.

A weeklong series of ensemble and senior performances that will feature a different theme each night, celebrating the diversity and creativity of the School of Music. The week will conclude with a concert featuring Grammy-nominated faculty/alum Ben O'Neill BM '04 (Guitar) as part of the Laurie Wagman Concert Series.

Visiting Artist Lecture: Wendy Maruyama
The Craft + Material Studies program presents a lecture by wood artist Wendy Maruyama, whose exhibit “The wildLIFE Project” is on display the Center for Art in Wood through April 23. “The wildlife Project” addresses poaching and the illegal ivory trade, which has all but decimated the elephant and exemplifies the artist’s shift beyond traditional studio craft and education, to advocacy.

Solo exhibit by Jonathan L. Chase BFA ’13 (Painting + Drawing), who creates figurative paintings that mine psychological and emotional experience. Beyond the Forest: Loli Kantor
“Beyond the Forest” is a photographic series that represents the fragile renewal of Jewish life in Eastern Europe in the early 21st century. The project began when Loli Kantor, an Israeli-American photographer, turned a journey to discover the world of her family, most having perished in the Holocaust, into a broader engagement with the daily life of the Jews of Eastern Europe today.

Black Tar Bodega: Adam Lovitz + Patrick McGuire
Part of the Hamilton Hall Public Art Initiative, “Black Tar Bodega” is an installation by artists Adam Lovitz and Patrick MaGuire, who met in 2012 while attending the graduate program at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. The exhibit displays materials that are stripped from branding, encased in ice, harvested by the sun and offered to the passerby for earthly reflection.

Gitmo at Home, Gitmo at Play, Gitmo on Sale: Debi Cornwall
“Gitmo at Home, Gitmo at Play, Gitmo on Sale” by photographer Debi Cornwall looks at the grim absurdity of daily life for both prisoners and guards at the U.S. Naval Station at Guantánamo Bay, Cuba (known as “Gitmo”) through their residential and leisure spaces, as no faces may be depicted per military regulation.
