The University of the Arts will be one of the title sponsors of the 2016 Rough Cut Film Festival, a festival for filmmakers under the age of 25 from the Philadelphia region. The festival, which takes place June 13-20, spans seven days of screenings, workshops and panel discussions, culminating in a red carpet awards gala at the Suzanne Roberts Theatre on Broad Street on Monday, June 20.

High school-aged filmmakers will compete for best film in narrative, documentary and experimental categories, with first place winners receiving $12,000 per year scholarships (for a total of $48,000) to the University of the Arts and $6,000 per year scholarships (for a total of $24,000) for runners-up.

The Rough Cut Film Festival originated at the Science Leadership Academy (SLA), an inquiry-driven, project-based magnet school located in Philadelphia. Now in its third year, the festival has grown from screening work produced solely within SLA to highlighting work produced by filmmakers around the region.
