4 New Trustees Elected to UArts Board
The University of the Arts announced the election of three new members to its Board of Trustees. UArts alumni Judson Aaron BM ’81 (Saxophone) and Karin Copeland BS ’83 (Industrial Design) are joined by civic leader Anthony Kyriakakis and education volunteer Patricia Fowler as the University’s newest trustees.

UArts Joins Affiliate Ticket Program at Franklin Institute

ArtBlog Radio Interviews Sculpture Student
Rising senior Souleye "Pap" Fall '17 (Sculpture) was featured on Artblog Radio in an interview with Roberta Fallon about his unique body suits, stitched up while he is wearing them. “Pap is also a wonderful maker of sculptural installations, and he's a dancer. Alumna's 'Touch Tours' Featured on 'NBC Nightly News'
Philly Touch Tours, co-founded by alumna Trish Maunder MA '06 (Art Education), was recently featured on “NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt.” The organization provides cultural accessibility tours for the visually impaired, like Maunder’s daughter, Katie, who is blind. The story focused on the “Insights into Ancient Egypt” tour at the University of Pennsylvania Museum of Archeology and Anthropology. Watch >>

Professor Delivers Keynote Lecture, Speaks at George Mason University
University Professor of Humanities & Media Studies Camille Paglia gave a keynote lecture at the “Free Speech on the College Campus” Forum sponsored by the Pennoni Honors College at Drexel University in Philadelphia. The award-winning author also appeared on “Conversations with Tyler,” a series of one-on-one dialogues with today’s top thinkers led by author and economics professor Tyler Cowan, director of George Mason University’s prestigious Mercatus Center in Arlington, Va. The interview was the lead story on The Chronicle of Higher Education’s “Arts & Letters Daily” news site. Watch the interview >>

Mural Arts Program Unveils Alum's Work
Brownstein Group Founder and Chairman Berny Brownstein DIPL ’57 (Advertising Design) has added “muralist” to an illustrious list of names he has been called over his 60-year career, monikers that include “King of Broad Street” and “Dean of Philadelphia Advertising.” Brownstein’s first-ever mural was unveiled on July 21 at the corner of 23rd and Sansom Streets in Center City thanks to the Mural Arts Program of Philadelphia, which began as an anti-graffiti network in 1984 and has grown to be the nation’s largest public art program. The piece, titled “Wild Tuscan Lillies,” was first painted by Brownstein on a visit to Tuscany over 10 years ago. More info >>

'Philadelphia Magazine' Spotlights UArts Alumna
UArts alumna Laurie Phillips BFA '77 (Painting + Drawing), who Philadelphia Magazine calls the “Queen of Rittenhouse,” was featured in the July 9 issue in an article titled “Power Brokers: Inside the Lives (and Homes) of Philly’s Million-Dollar Real Estate Agents.” Read the article >>

Faculty/Alum Featured in Local Paper
Animation Adjunct Assistant Professor John Serpentelli BFA ’91 (Film), MAT ’93 (Art Education) was featured in the July 14 issue of his hometown newspaper, the Chestnut Hill Local. The article focuses on a few of the animation workshops he is teaching this summer at local schools and on “From Homeless to Hopeful,” one of the films the students are working on. Serpentelli will continue working on the animated documentary throughout the fall with an internship at UArts. Read the article >>

Rosenwald-Wolf Exhibit Featured on ArtDaily.org
The Rosenwald-Wolf Gallery exhibition “Do You, Ms. Jones?”, which runs through July 29 in conjunction with the Democratic National Convention being held in Philadelphia July 25-28, was featured on ArtDaily.org, the first art newspaper on the net. Artists in this dynamic exhibit include UArts alumnus Dave McKenzie BFA '00 (Printmaking), a 2014 Whitney Biennial artist and winner of the prestigious Rome Prize. Read the article >>

Equality in the Sky
A pop-up exhibition and book signing by School of Design staff member and alumna Rachelle Lee Smith BFA '02 (Photography), award-winning author of Speaking OUT: Queer Youth in Focus, is included as part of Equality Pennsylvania's "Get Out the Vote" fundraising initiative being held during the Democratic National Convention this week. Tickets: $100/person
 includes appetizers, two drink tickets and entertainment by the Martha Graham Cracker Cabaret.

"Material Body," a photo by alumna and 2016 UArts President’s Award recipient Kathleen Greco BS ’79 (Industrial Design), MFA ’15 (Studio Art), was selected for the “A Point of View: Contemporary Photography” international juried exhibition by juror Mitra Abbaspour, independent curator and former associate curator in the department of Photography at the Museum of Modern Art.
