ESL Institute Curriculum

The English as a Second Language Institute (ESLI) helps improve reading, writing and oral English proficiency for international students through a specially designed curriculum that combines ESL and the arts. Undergraduate students who successfully complete ESLI  and matriculate into an undergraduate degree program receive 3 UArts college credits toward graduation.

The curriculum includes the following features:

  • Small classes and personal attention
  • Creative and experienced instructors
  • Studio art, design, and music lessons
  • Classroom practice in oral communication strategies for art, design, and performance studies
  • College-level reading and writing assignments focusing on art, design, and performance
  • Field trips, social activities and participation in Univesity of the Arts programs and events

  • Spring Session (15 weeks)
    January 16 - May 7
    International Student Orientation begins January 9
  • Mid-Spring Session (8 weeks)
    March 12 - May 7
  • Summer Session (8 weeks)
    June 18 - August 10
  • Fall Session (15 weeks)
    August 27 - December 14
    International Student Orientation begins August 20
