Staff Therapist & Outreach Coordinator
Counseling Services

Ryan O’Laughlin has been a staff therapist at the UArts Counseling Center since 2015. He is a licensed social worker who holds a BSW and MSW from Temple University. Prior to joining UArts, Ryan worked for six years in a variety of therapeutic roles including outpatient therapist, continuity of care/intake coordinator and psychiatric rehabilitation specialist in the Renaissance Intensive Outpatient Program at PATH Inc., a community mental health center in Northeast Philadelphia. In this environment, Ryan supported adults with chronic and acute diagnoses including major depression, bipolar disorder and schizophrenia, and helped others to achieve goals including going back to school, gaining employment, improving socialization skills and maintaining self care. Ryan is also a trained trauma/disaster responder and he provided disaster relief twice in New Orleans immediately following Hurricane Katrina, which contributed to his desire to support people under stress and in crisis. He has volunteered as a peer counselor for the William Way LGBT Peer Counseling Program and also taught English as a Second Language in Barcelona for two years prior to pursing his MSW. Currently, Ryan assists the Counseling Center by offering counseling with our talented students as well as by organizing outreach events and activities to promote wellness to the UArts community. He looks forward to helping students and their families achieve their goals by making their college experience transformative.
