Director for Diversity, Equity & Inclusion, Office of the President
Maurice Baynard is the Director for Diversity, Equity & Inclusion in the Office of the President. Prior to his appointment as director, Maurice served as inaugural Co-chair of the University’s DEI Committee where he worked to craft and implement the committee’s core mission of “creating open and honest dialogue about issues of diversity at the university and taking intentional actions to move the university forward.” An Associate Professor in the school of Critical Studies and a member of the science faculty since 2012, Maurice’s teaching has included a variety of courses focused on the intersection of science and creativity including: Problem Solving, Brain and Behavior, Human Perception and Sleep Dreams and Art. Serving as faculty advisor for the African Diaspora Collective, Media Now and the UArts chapter of the NAACP, he has been twice awarded Advisor of the Year by the office of Student Affairs.
Maurice has held both faculty and administrative appointments at Community College of Philadelphia, University of Pennsylvania, Penn State Abington and Drexel University. Maurice is the creator and host of Drexel University’s 10,000 hours podcast and co-founder of the Broadside Collective which is dedicated to exploring the intersection of Creativity, Science, and collaborative practices to advance community problem-solving.
Maurice received a Master’s in Molecular and Cell Biology from Medical College of Pennsylvania and completed his Doctoral work in Sleep and Chronobiology at the Unit for Experimental Psychiatry of Perelman School of Medicine and the University of Pennsylvania.
