The University of the Arts ("UArts" "the University") is committed to protecting the privacy of our Web visitors. To that end we have implemented and will enforce the following policy.
About the Information We Collect
The data and information we collect through our website is used only to help the University achieve its educational mission. It is our policy to collect and store only the personally identifying information that visitors to our website knowingly provide.
From Casual Website Visitors and General Users
We do not collect any personal information from casual visitors browsing our website. When you use the public areas of our website you are doing so anonymously.
Like most standard website servers, we use log files. For each visitor to our website, our web-server automatically recognizes only the visitor's IP address (domain name), but not the email address (where possible). We collect and use IP addresses (domain name) from the log files for internal and marketing purposes to analyze trends, administer the site, track a visitor's movement on the site (number of hits on the site, pages accessed, etc.), and gather broad demographic information for aggregate use. IP addresses are not linked to personally identifiable information.
We utilize Google's and Facebook's remarketing, which is a technique that allows our ads placed on other sites to be presented to you in a more interest-based way. We also utilize FullStory to better understand how our visitors are using our site and how we can improve that experience (see "Cookies" below).
We do not collect the email address of visitors to our website unless they communicate with us by email or post in our chat areas. We, however, sometimes collect information volunteered by the visitor, such as survey information and/or site registrations.
From Our Donors, Students, Chat Room Participants, Store Customers, Job Seekers and Interactive Users
If, while visiting our website, you order from our School Store (UArts Store), register for class, apply for or ask about job opening (Jobs@UArts), make a donation, submit a question or request other information from us, you may be asked to provide certain information to us. In all cases this information is submitted voluntarily. In most cases, the University asks for a resume in response to an inquiry in reference to a job posting (Jobs@UArts). The University generally asks for name, title, organization name, address, telephone, and email when you request information from us.
If you're making a purchase or donation, you may be asked for credit card information in order to complete your transaction. UArts has contracted the services of various third party vendors to process credit card transactions submitted online. The University does not retain or have access to your financial information and these vendors do not share your credit card information with us.
We also collect the email addresses of those who communicate with us via email and of those who make postings to our chat areas.
Third Party Collection
Our customer lists and donor lists are not for sale. When you visit the University store on our website or become a donor of the University, your name and mailing information will not be sold to a commercial organization.
Use of both first-party and third-party cookies also enable us to employ Google Analytics Demographics and Interest Reporting. This provides us with aggregate demographic information about our visitors that we can use to better tailor our content. If you do not wish us to track you in this way, you may opt-out of our Google Analytics tracking. Note that cookies must be enabled and that this will opt you out of Google Analytics tracking on this site only. If you wish to opt out of Google Analytics tracking for all sites, you may visit Google's opt out page.
FullStory cookies allow us to record actions on our site such as links clicked, any non-sensitive text entered and mouse movements, as well as more typical information such as browser type and the ISP you use. If you wish you may opt-out of this tracking; but before you opt out, please consider that the purpose of FullStory tracking is to help identify areas on the site that may not work well for you and so allow us to improve your experience on our site.
Use of Information Gathered
The information we collect is used by us to contact visitors for informational purposes as requested by the visitor; used to provide some types of on-line services; used to improve the content of our website; and, in the case of donors and alumni/ae, used for further solicitation purposes.
If you supply us with your postal address or email address on-line you may receive periodic mailings or emails from us with information on new products and services or upcoming events. If you do not wish to receive such mailings or emails, please let us know by calling, emailing or writing to us as described below under Contact Us.
Persons who supply us with their telephone numbers on-line will only receive telephone contact from us with information regarding the programs or other areas in which they have expressed an interest on-line. Donors and alumni/ae may receive occasional calls soliciting their participation in various fundraising activities. If you do not wish to receive phone calls from us, please let us know by calling, emailing or writing us as described below under Contact Us.
Notice of Change in Information; Gathering/Use Practices
Visitors may prevent their information from being used for purposes other than those for which it was originally collected by calling, emailing or writing us as described below under Contact Us.
Correction of Information Gathered
Visitors can have information previously gathered from them corrected by calling, emailing or writing as described below under Contact Us.
