Nyeema Morgan’s interdisciplinary practice includes large-scale drawings, sculptural installation, and print-based media. Referencing familiar cultural material, Morgan reflects on personal and cultural economies of knowledge. Her works raise questions about how we articulate and construct meaning within a complex system of socio-political relations.
Morgan’s work has been exhibited at The Drawing Center, New York, NY; the Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art, Boulder, CO; Marlborough Contemporary, New York, NY; Grant Wahlquist Gallery, Portland, ME; Galerie Jeanroch Dard, Paris, France and the CSS Bard Galleries/ Bard College, Annendale-on-Hudson, NY. Some of Morgan’s awards and residencies include an Art Matters Grant, NY; Joan Mitchell Painters & Sculptors Grant, NY; Lower Manhattan Cultural Council Workspace residency, NY and the Skowhegan School of Painting & Sculpture, ME. Her works have been included in The Wall Street Journal, Time Out NY, and ArtForum. Morgan earned an MFA from California College of the Arts and a BFA from Cooper Union School of Art. She currently resides in Chicago, Illinois.
