Dance (MFA)

Born in 1991, Su Güzey started studying in Management of Performing Arts Department Performing Arts branch in Bilgi University, Istanbul, Turkey, in 2009. In 2011, she entered Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University State Conservatory Contemporary Dance Department, also in Istanbul, from which she graduated in 2015. In the fall term of the 2014–2015 academic year, she went to study in Konservatorium Wien Privatuniversitat in Vienna, Austria, with the Erasmus+ program. She is currently living in Philadelphia, studying for her MFA in Dance at University of the Arts, and working as adjunct assistant professor. She premiered her first choreographic work, Store My DNA, So They Can Regenerate My Soul, in İKSV 19th İstanbul Theatre Festival in 2014. Her collaboration with Evrim Akyay as co-creators started in April 2019, with their first performance piece kitty kitty, sponsored by Akbank Sanat for the creation process. kitty kitty made its Turkish premiere in 23rd IKSV Istanbul Theatre Festival in December 2019 and got accepted to Zaratan Artist in Residence in Lisbon, Portugal, and performed in Lisbon with a collaboration of Zaratan and Largo Residencies. kitty kitty is now accepted to Aerowaves Twenty21 Choreographers for the 2020–2021 season. Their second piece, rattling, premiered in A Corner in the World Festival in SALT, Beyoğlu, Istanbul, Turkey, in May 2019. In August 2021, rattling got accepted to Aerowaves Dance Festival Luxembourg artist residency program and premiered in the festival. Their next piece, created in residency in Lisbon, small talk premiered in Zaratan, Lisbon. Su worked with Aakash Odedra Company as a freelance dancer from 2015 to 2020 in research projects, and the piece #Je Suis created in this process by Aakash Odedra Company. The piece had its world premiere at New York University Abu Dhabi in January 2018 and its Europe premiere in the Birmingham Hippodrome in England, was performed in Sadler’s Wells, London, and had its U.K. and Germany tour, with more than 50 performances in total. She performed in pieces of many artists, such as Jerome Bel, Isaac Chong Wai, La Fura Dels Baus, Korhan Başaran, Slobodan Dan Paich, Aydın Teker, Willi Dorner and Mustafa Kaplan. Su created and organized the Visibility in Art Festival in 2014 in collaboration with Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University; the festival started in İstanbul and in İzmir in collaboration with the budalasultan collective until 2018.
