Illustration (BFA)

In an era where you can teach yourself just about anything online, I find the one on one interactions with my teachers to be the most important aspect of the development of my career in the arts and I never would have made those deep connections learning illustration elsewhere.

David Curtis is an award-winning book designer and illustrator currently based in New York City. David is a Senior Designer for HarperCollins Children’s Books; he spends his days designing book covers and interiors as well as art directing fellow illustrators to create fresh and compelling book designs.

Recently David had the chance to art direct illustrators like Victo Ngai (A Lite Too Bright and Angel Mage), Red Nose Studio (Maximillian Fly) and Dadu Shin (Gone to Drift). He has also art directed fellow UArts Alumni including Corey Brickley (The Fascinators) and one of his past UArts instructors, Jonathan Bartlett (American Moonshot).

As an illustrator, he is currently working on both the Riverdale Prequel Series and The Furyborn Trilogy. This past year he won the Silver Medal at Society of Illustrators West for his cover illustration for Before I Disappear.
