Summer Music Studies Director Jenny Neff on the Working Musician Podcast

June 13, 2019

Summer Music Studies Director Jenny Neff was recently interviewed on the Working Musician Podcast, hosted by David Pedrick. They covered all things music and education, from activism and institutional history to the Teaching with Primary Sources program.

When asked about her role as Director of Summer Music Studies, Neff said:

That is a creative part for me, I love working with professional development. I've helped with the planning of conferences, at the district level, so I get to reach out to a lot of connections I've made over the years and bring in what's hot, what's now and what we think is necessary for music educators at this time.

Dr. Neff is a UArts Associate Professor and Division Chair of Music Education as well as Director of the Master of Music and Summer Music Studies programs. She has a career teaching in public schools, spanning 25 years in Pennsylvania and New England, primarily teaching instrumental music. Neff was one of ten writers for NAfME's Teaching with Primary Sources project through the Library of Congress and serves as the Eastern Division Representative for NAfME’s Council for Band and is the State Representative for Pennsylvania for Women Band Directors International.

Neff received her Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Immaculata University and her Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Music Education from Michigan State University, where she studied horn.
Recently, Neff was a mentor for the Key of She Conference, a jazz conference aimed at inspiring girls who are interested in jazz and creating awareness around female musicians who are doing amazing things. The conference was started by Olivia Hughart, one of Neff's former Lower Merion High School students.
