JOB TITLE: Accommodations Specialist
DEPARTMENT: Office of Educational Accessibility 
REPORTS TO: Director, Office of Educational Accessibility 


JOB SUMMARY: The Accommodation Specialist implements reasonable accommodations for students registered with the Office of Educational Accessibility (OEA), including students with physical, medical, learning, psychiatric disabilities, as well as students on the Autism Spectrum. The Accommodation Specialist ensures that accommodation disclosure forms, accommodation requests, residential living and meal plan exceptions, and all other records for students with disabilities are kept in compliance with procedures and regulations. The Accommodation Specialist is responsible for implementing accommodations (including test accommodations), assisting faculty and university offices, promoting student self-advocacy, and working with Director to foster an environment of access and equal opportunity on campus.


The incumbent must be able to manage student issues that arise regarding the services and accommodations provided in the absence of the Director, exercising effective decision making and consulting with supervisors as needed.


The Accommodation Specialist also works closely with the other Student Affairs staff in the Advising Center, Counseling Center, and Health Services to assist students in procuring other support services such as tutoring, counseling, or health services and participates in new student admission, orientation, and wellness programs as requested.


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
•    Master’s Degree in Higher Education or Counseling with experience working with students with disabilities preferred or Bachelor’s Degree in Special Education or related field.
•    Minimum of 1-2 years’ experience in student disability services, and/or student affairs. 
•    Excellent organizational, written, verbal & electronic communication skills, coupled with knowledge of assistive technology.
•    Able to work as part of a collaborative team focused on providing high quality services to students with disabilities. 
•    Demonstrated ability to exercise good judgment and sound decision making skills.
•    Knowledge and/or appreciation for the arts a plus.
•    Possesses knowledge of applicable laws that ensure equal access to students, including Section 504 and 508 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, the Americans with Disabilities Act (1990) and ADAAA (2009).
