Photography (BFA)

When I set out to take a picture or make a video, I usually start with a sole purpose: to somehow tell a story through it.

James Izlar is a photographer from New Jersey. He first began taking pictures when he was 15, and hasn’t been without a camera ever since.  His work spans a variety of subjects, from the everyday life around him to intimate, sometimes abstract, portraits.

Izlar says, "When I set out to take a picture or make a video, I usually start with a sole purpose: to somehow tell a story through it.  In some circumstances, I like for the viewer to create the story themselves. Whether it be an abstract story or one that is pretty straightforward, it is nevertheless something I believe should be told.  To me, a story is timeless; if something has a story to tell, it is like it holds its own piece of time within it."
