A Usability + User Experience Program

The UX Design Certificate program provides an introduction to designing user-centered experiences for the web, mobile and beyond. You will learn to navigate the process of collecting research, testing, analyzing, problem-solving, and transforming your data into a successful, functional design. At the conclusion of the program, you'll be prepared for the field with an understanding of best practices and how to design with empathy.

If accepted, students must submit a non-refundable matriculation fee of $100 to hold their place in the program. The matriculation fee is used to cover costs associated with the certificate program such as UArts CS student photo ID and computer lab access.


UX Design Course Sequence

Participants complete the 13-credit course sequence in three semesters (Spring, Summer, Fall).  Classes meet on campus once a week from 6-9 pm. In addition, classes are supplemented with special topic presentations, field trips, and hands-on experiences; students attend 6 presentations or special programs over the course of the program.

1: Orientation and Introduction to Design Thinking

One day workshop, including a faculty presentation on the history of design thinking, workshop exercises, and guest presenters. (First course | 1 cr | 1 Day | $125)

2: Usability: A Case Study – Finding Solutions

Take an existing product through usability test phase. (Second course | 2 cr | 5 weeks | $640)

3: User-Centered Design: Research Phase

Learn about the psychology of design research, how to do client research; synthesizing user research + test to create a design solution. (Third course | 2 cr | 5 weeks | $640)

4: Usability and User Experience

Content, Strategy + Research; process + manage a digital project from start to finish. (Fourth course | 3 cr | 10 weeks | $940)

5: Project Management for Creatives

Examine all aspects of digital agency operations from finding the right clients and negotiating-to contract writing basics, and the scheduling and managing workflow. (Fifth course | 2 cr | 3 Days | $640)

Final Course: Capstone Project

Students will work with real-world clients to take a UX design project through the entire cycle through research phase, user flow, validation, testing + presentation (Final course | 3 cr | 10 weeks | $940)
