Dance (MFA)

"Paul Maheke (b. 1985, Brive-la-Gaillarde, France) lives and works in London,UK. He completed an MA Art Practice from École nationale supérieure d'arts de Cergy (2011) and was an Associate of Open School East's Programme of study, London, UK (2015), with a focus on dance and through a varied and often collaborative body of work comprising performance, installation, sound and video, Maheke considers the potential of the body as an archive in order to examine how memory and identity is formed and constituted.

Previous solo exhibitions include Acqua Alta, Galerie Sultana, Paris; What Flows Through and Across, Assembly Point, London; In Me Everything is Already Flowing, Center, Berlin (all 2017); and I Lost Track of the Swarm, South London Gallery (2016). Selected group exhibitions include Ten Days Six Nights, Tate Modern, London; Diaspora Pavilion, 57th Venice Biennale, Italy; Posthuman Complicities, Akademie der Künste, Vienna (all 2017); Slope-tend-big, Grand Union, Birmingham; and Ways of Living, David Roberts Art Foundation, London (all 2016).

Paul Maheke was awarded the South London Gallery Graduate Residency, UK, 2015 – 2016; La Manutention, Palais de Tokyo, Paris, FR, 2017; Moving UP, commissioned by The Serpentine Galleries, London, UK, 2015; Darling Foundry, Montreal, 2015; Centre International d’Art et du Paysage, Vassivière, France, 2014; Villa Pan, Hors les Murs programme, French Institute, Suzhou, China, 2010.

In 2018 Chisenhale Gallery (London, UK) presents his first major solo presentation in a UK institution. His work is also included in the Baltic Triennial 13, the 6th Rennes Biennale and presented at Kunsten Festival, Brussels and Lafayette Anticipations, Paris (all 2018) "
