BFA '16

Erin Murdock is a Philadelphia-based glass artist. She received her BFA in Craft & Material Studies, with a concentration in glass, from the University of the Arts in 2016. Murdock is currently an apprentice at Selvin Glass in Ardmore, PA, a stained glass restoration and custom fabrication studio. Her interest in stained glass was first made possible through Judith Schaechter, which whom she studied under at University of the Arts. In the summer of 2017, Murdock was a Teaching Assistant for Cappy Thompson & Dick Clark's "High Test: Paint & Lead" class at Pilchuck Glass School in Standwood, WA. She has received a number of awards, including a general student scholarship from the Glass Arts Society, and in the summer of 2015, received a grant from the Art Alliance for Contemporary Glass to study glass casting with Dan Clayman at Haystack Mountain School of Crafts in Deer Isle, ME. In 2016 her work was awarded a Gallery Pick by Wexler Gallery at the University of the Arts “Art Unleashed” scholarship fundraiser. Murdock's current works focus on traditional stained glass restoration techniques, while incorporating uncommon materials. She hopes to start a conversation about materiality accessibility and the influence stained glass has had for centuries.
