GERMAUL YUSEF BARNES - recently choreographed the world premiere of Marley, the first original musical based on the life and music of the reggae superstar Bob Marley written & directed by Kwame Kwei-Armah. Mr. Barnes is a former principal dancer and currently a répétiteur for the Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company, where he received the New York Dance and Performance Award- "Bessie Award." Mr. Barnes is currently choreographer in residence at RestorationArts in Brooklyn, NY. and Alabama School of Arts in Birmingham, AL. Mr. Barnes has received honors ranging from; United Nations Global Iamness Empowerment Award for his international diplomacy in the Arts, Arts International Grant, and The Baryshnikov Residency Fellowship. One of his highest personal achievements includes demonstrating for legendary choreographer/anthropologist, Katherine Dunham.

Forming Germaul Barnes-Viewsic Dance (formerly Viewsic Expressions) in 1991, Mr. Barnes mission is to promote and present multilayered dance performances and educational residencies. In addition to creating more than 30 works for his own company. Mr. Barnes has received many commissions to create dances for modern and ballet companies and festivals including New York Summer Stages, Movement Source Dance Company, Southern Danceworks, Footholds Dance Project, Calvin Wiley Dance Company, Cleveland Contemporary Dance Company, Sherry Robinson - jazz vocalis, University of North Carolina Greensboro, Alvin Ailey/Fordham School, Judson Memorial Church, Performance Space 122, Danspace Project, DanceNow/New York, Thelma Hill Performance Arts Center, Saratoga Arts Gallery, Dixon Place, HarlemStages, Restoration Youth Arts Academy, Kumble Theater for the Performing Arts, Choreographic Sketches, Skidmore College, Movement Research, Invisible Dog Art Gallery, ChoreoQuest, aTrek Dance Collective, Southern Dance Works, Alabama School of Fine Arts , The Phoenix Arts Commission, Movement Source Dance Company, Institute of Contemporary Art/Boston, DanceImmersion, Jasmyn Fyffe Dance, Cyrus Arts Productions, and internationally - State of Emergency Festival, Belarus International Modern Dance Festival, Boroditsky Denis Dance Company, Ghana National Dance Company, and the Lublin International Dance Festival, and Friends of Tafo in London, England.

Mr. Barnes has performed with Pilobolus Dance Company, Tolada Dance Company (Berlin, Germany), Cleo Parker Robinson Dance Ensemble, Movement Source Dance Co., Philadelphia Opera Company and Group Motion Dance Company. He has appeared as a Guest Artist with Minnesota Ballet, Ohwia Ballet Company (Tokyo, Japan), Errol Grimes Dance Group, Joan Miller Dance Players, Shapiro and Smith, and TU Dance Company.

Mr. Barnes has received brilliant acclaim as a dance instructor from prominent dance academies throughout Germany (TanzFabric, Ballet Centrum, Milton's TanzSchool). His list of other venerable dance institutions includes University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Alabama Dance Festival, University of Michigan, 92nd Street Y- Harkness Dance Center, New Dance Technique Laboratory, Dance Olympus, Wayne State University, Black College Dance Exchange, Skidmore College, University of Buffalo, Ghana National Dance Theater, Xavier College Prep, Dance Masters Competition and Cleo Parker Summer Intensive.
