Summer Institute International Students
Summer Institute Application Process for International Applicants*
(Non-US Citizens/Non-US Permanent Residents requiring a Form I-20)*
Info & application will be available in January 2020.
UArts Pre-College welcomes students from around the globe to campus each summer for creative exploration in Philadelphia. If you are not a United States citizen or Permanent Resident, you are considered an international student (non-immigrant) and require an F-1 student visa to study full-time in the UArts Pre-College Summer Institute. All non-US citizens seeking an I-20 and F-1 visa must complete the Pre-College I-20 request form to receive a UArts I-20 which is required to obtain an F-1 student visa from the U.S. Embassy/Consulate in your country.
Please note that I-20 applications take two to five weeks to process upon receipt of a complete I-20 application.
The following materials must be submitted online by Friday, May 15, 2020
- Completed online Summer Institute application (includes I-20 request form). Start application
- A personal statement (Art, Media & Design, Creative Writing, Music Industry, Theater) or audition (Dance, Music). View application requirements
- A non-refundable deposit of $200. The deposit will be returned only if a student is denied admission.
* Note: If you already have an F-1 visa and Form I-20 and are currently studying in the US, you still must provide copies of your immigration documents (passport, F-1 visa, and Form I-20).
The 2020 deadline for Pre-College international student applicants is Friday, May 15, 2020 .
Given the lengthy processing time within governmental agencies responsible for visas, we strongly encourage you to submit your online application, forms, and all required fees as early as possible, before the deadline. Please contact your local US Consulate or Embassy with any questions regarding visas. You may also visit the SEVP website.
If you have additional questions about your immigration-related paperwork*, please contact:

Plan Your Travel
UArts is accessible from the Philadelphia International Airport by cab (30-minutes) or SEPTA Regional Rail to Suburban Station (10-minute walk to campus). Taxis are queued outside the terminals, and Uber and Lyft are also available. Students should plan to make their own transportation arrangements to and from campus.
Housing cannot be provided before check-in on Sunday, July 5th. Early arrivals are not encouraged. If you are taking an international flight and have no choice but to arrive prior to check-in please contact the Pre-College office. If you are unable to find an appropriate flight, we recommend finding hotel accommodations for early arrivals.
Final check-out from residence halls varies by program of study. For planning purposes, students should expect to leave campus between 4 pm and 6 pm on the last day of their program.
