Jung-eun Kim
Jungeun Kim (J.e.) is a choreographer, dancer and digital media designer. She started her formal dance studies at age 18 at Soon-Eui Women’s College and Hansung University. In 2005 she decided to continue her dance studies even further and immigrated to the U.S. As an immigrant, her experiences have significantly influenced her work. Working with digital media in her choreography has evolved into a personal language and craft. Her research has focused on how her practice happens in relationship to other art forms such as visual art, architecture, digital media and music. Over the past few years, she has participated in a number of interdisciplinary collaborations, with musicians and visual artists. Currently she has been focused on community-based art projects, especially for the children of immigrants and refugees.
She holds a Master of Fine Arts in Dance from American Dance Festival/Hollins University, under direction of Donna Faye Burchfield and Master of Arts in Liberal Studies in Visual and Performing Arts from Hollins University. Her works have been shown around the US, Europe and Asia at venues including the Merriam Theater, Taubman Museum of Art, Movement Research at the Judson Church, Gibney Dance and Torino Esposizioni. As a dancer and digital media designer, she has worked with artists such as Boris Charmatz, Yvonne Meier, Amanda K. Miller, Sarah Skaggs, Thomas F. DeFrantz/SLIPPAGE, Susan Rethorst, Helen Simoneau Danse, YangKeun Kim/Garion Dance Company and Jane Comfort & Co.
She is also a self-taught web designer and she has had the privilege to work with various artists to highlight their artistic visions and work such as Wideman/Davis Dance, Ballet Ashani and Lucas Brown. J.e. has been a guest artist and faculty at Swarthmore College, Dickinson College, Drexel University, American Dance Festival, Hollins University, UArts Pre-College Summer Institute, and The Modern Dance Promotion of Korea. She has been teaching at The University of the Arts, School of Dance since 2012. J.e. hails from Seoul, South Korea.
